If we do not have a picture for this weed, or you can provide a better picture (scan, digital camera etc) please please e-mail it to us. Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca serriola) is the most widespread resistant weed of Idaho

Introduction About this page
There are currently 13 different types (known as 'biotypes') of herbicide resistant weeds in Idaho. The first herbicide resistant weed reported from Idaho is Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca serriola) with resistance to chlorsulfuron, imazethapyr, metsulfuron-methyl, thifensulfuron-methyl, triasulfuron, and tribenuron-methyl, reported in 1987. Local weed scientists estimate that there are 7,740 sites and more than 238,000 acres infested with herbicide resistant weeds in Idaho and they infest cereals, lentils, peas, potato, roadsides, and wheat. The most widespread resistant weed of Idaho is Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca serriola), which infests an estimated 10001-100000 acres and is found primarily in cereals, lentils, peas, and wheat. Italian Ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), with resistance to clodinafop-propargyl, diclofop-methyl, flufenacet, quizalofop-P-ethyl, and triasulfuron is the most recently discovered (2005) new type of resistant weed in Idaho.
