Help on Herbicide Resistant Weeds

Note:  After reading the help file then hit your back button to return to edit your case
If items are not listed on the pull down menus you can add a note to the case or send an e-mail to support@weedscience.org
Species Select the species that has become resistant.  If the species is not on the list then please contact us - we will put it on the list.
Country Select the country that the weed has evolved resistance in.  Again if the country is not listed then please let us know - we will add it quickly.
State The state or region where the species evolved resistance.
or if USA, AU, CA If the resistant weed was found in the USA, Australia, or Canada then please choose the state or province from this menu.
Nearest City The nearest city, or town to the location of the first occurrence of the resistant weed.  Not necessary but of interest from a historical viewpoint.
First Year The first year that controlled experiments verified that the weed was resistant - ie: by comparing a resistant biotype with a susceptible of the same species.
Site Number Your best "guestimate" of how many sites of this type of resistant biotype occur in your country (or if you are from USA, Australia, or Canada then in your state or province).
Site Increase Your best "guestimate" of whether the number of sites are increasing or not.
Area Infested Your best "guestimate" of how many acres of are infested with this type of resistant weed in your country (or if you are from USA, Australia, or Canada then in your state or province).  1 hectare = 2.5 acres.  A hectare is approximately two and a half times the size of an acre.
Area Increase Your best "guestimate" of whether the area infested is increasing or not.
R/S comparison Were experiments conducted to confirm resistance and if so was a susceptible of the same species used as a control.
Fitness Penalty Has research shown that the resistant biotype is less fit than normal susceptible plants of the same species?
Gene Number Are the number of genes involved in this trait known?
Dominance Is the trait of resistance dominant, semi-dominant, or recessive?
Gene Location Is the trait inherited via the nucleus or is it cytoplasmic (often for triazine resistant weeds)?
Resistant To Select the herbicides that this weed has resistance to (greater level of resistance than a normal susceptible weed of the same species).

Please note:  Use the pull down menu to select a herbicide, then hit the add button to move it down into the selection box.  To remove a herbicide from the selection box highlight it (click on it) then click on the delete button. Tip: When you are scrolling down looking for a herbicide then hit the first letter of the herbicide you are searching for.

Situation Select
Controlled by Select the herbicides that are commonly used to control this type of resistant weed.
Contacts Please select yourself and any others that are listed that are involved with this case of resistance.  You can add other people (not listed) later using a note.
Mechanisms If experiments have been conducted to determine the mechanism of resistance then please select a mechanism, otherwise select Unknown.
R/S confirmation Tests How was resistance confirmed - in laboratory tests, greenhouse tests, in the field?  Select each method that has been used to confirm resistance.
